How can I move two cats very reluctant to travel long distances?

I've looked at previous answers on this subject, and I'm not sure there's something that can help. The last time I went to one of my cats, I had the vet give him an oral sedative, put it in the car and was still crying and screaming nonstop for the entire 20 hours of travel.
