People who have backpacked through Europe ….. Need !!!!!? experience

I am planning a trip to Europe will start in London, so the English barrier is not that large at first. I'll come next May for a year. Really want to see many Italians, but my family is as Italian thoroughbred and I want to see Venice, Rome, Sicily, spending about 2 weeks in Italy. I ultimately want to 3 months backpacking through Europe on vacation and staying in hostels. I visit all the countries, and therefore have opted for a Europe Rail Pass. I found flights to London from Chicago for $ 794 round trip, now I need to know how to plan my trip. How much money is needed for hostels …… I do not plan on eating much and drinking makes rare. I 23 and single trip!
